Individualized developmental and relationship-based speech therapy for neurodiverse children.

Individual and Group Therapy

Connected Child provides in-home and in-school speech therapy that is highly tailored to each child’s developmental profile and individual preferences and interests. Through motivating games and activities, a range of developmental capacities are fostered including emotional regulation (i.e., ability to identify level arousal in self and others and advocate for regulatory needs), symbolic use of language (i.e., vocabulary, sentence structure, storytelling), pretend play and imagination, social communication (e.g., joint attention, reciprocal interaction, back and forth conversation) and social connection. Therapy may be provided individually or in an integrated play group depending on the child’s age, developmental capacities. and goals for treatment.

Parent Coaching and Support

Using the Hanen More than Words programs as a base, parents are equipped with strategies they can use with their children to foster connection and growth in joint attention, speech, language, emotional regulation and social capacities. Strategies are modeled for parents as we work with the child and coaching is provided through videotaping and video feedback. When parents are empowered to use strategies for imitation and reciprocity and are able to model language and tools, skills become more easily generalized and children progress at a rapid pace. Connected child also consults with parents to help them navigate systems, advocate for their child, and build the right team to support their child’s success in school, home and community.

School Consult And Neurodiversity Training

We provide in-depth inclusion support and training to schools to help them support children with social-emotional differences who are fully included in preschool or elementary school programs. Through our neurodiversity training series, teachers learn how to identify students developmental strengths and challenges, how to problem solve challenging behaviors, how to support all areas of development through play and how to support emotiional regulation and social communication in the classtoom. Specific plans for support are developed and strategies are modeled for teachers in the classroom. For children who are exhibiting significant challenge at school, observations are completed in the classroom and consultation is provided for parents and teachers to help them understand the strengths, needs and learning styles of the individual child and to coordinate execution of individualized plans for support.

“Liz is one of the most inspirational, knowledgeable and effective therapists that I have ever worked with over my 25 years of being an SLP in the field.  She has a unique ability to see the big picture of what is needed with each child and family unit and provides the detailed, individual supports that are needed to help children connect and communicate.  The most remarkable thing about Liz is that she is passionate about helping the whole family and her playful nature is contagious.”
